A work party has been arranged for Saturday 2nd December at Goose Green, starting at 09:30.

We will continue pumping down New Pond, finish off the path repairs on Deep Lake by covering the limestone installed at the last work party with a good covering of wood chip, stabilise the soggy sections of the path around pegs 19-21 with crushed limestone/hardcore and trim with wood chip.

If manpower permits we might trim the island back on Canada Pond.

  19th October 2017 - Tree Surgery

For Info

We will have a tree surgeon doing some work for us on a large diseased tree that is adjacent to the car park at Goose Green.

He has the authority and our full support to ask people to move their cars and themselves if they are in his way and causing a hazard to safe felling operations, please leave him alone to do the job he has been contracted to do - thank you.

Further details to follow.

14th October 2017 - Goose Green Work Party

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the work party today at Goose Green, lots of grass cutting, pond pumping and swim repairs were undertaken,

My personal thanks go to;

Sandy, Ollie, Simon, Eddie, Robin, Dudley, Ant, Alan, Terry, Barry R, Graham, Martin & Lewis.

A further work party will be arranged in the future to work on New Pond once the water has been reduced to a suitable level, date to be advised.

Following the work party we seem to be missing a couple of items, a pair of loppers, a bow saw and some safety glasses, could all who attended please check the boots of your cars to see if they have been inadvertently taken home with you or if anybody finds them around the fishery, please put them somewhere safe and let me know please.

Also does anybody know how the throttle lever on the wheeled strimmer got snapped off?

It's not the fact that its been broken, it's that nobody told me it had happened, if i don't know about it, i cant get it fixed.

We only noticed it had been broken by chance when we went to put it away yesterday. Nobody is going to get into trouble if you break a tool, but if you do, please let me know so i can get it repaired or replaced in time for the next work day.

Thanks again

29th September 2017 - Double Doubles at Goose Green

Following in from the seemingly unstoppable Allan Maddocks.

Steve Byrnes and myself had a pleasurable days fishing at GG today with a mixed bag of Carp, Crucians, Roach and Bream.

The attached were the largest of the day with the Common weighing 10lb 4oz and the Ghostie at 13lb 1oz.

26th September 2017 - Monster Perch At Goose Green

This just in from Alan Maddocks who fished Heron Pond at Goose Green today.

Fishing with a single maggot and just the top kit of his pole, he initially thought he had a small carp on, but lo and behold it was a fish of a lifetime in the shape of a 3-10-0 Perch.

Nice one Alan.

  24th September 2017 - 113Lb of Bream

This amazing catch report just in from Paul Holden.

Gail, Graham and I fished the Arun today enjoying another day on our favourite river in the Autumn sun. Gail and I fished the Waggler with maggot and caster on the straight, for nets of 5lb 12oz and 10lb 13oz respectively, consisting of Roach, Rudd and Dace.

Graham's still got the 'Bream Bug', so fished the Bream pegs for 23 fish to 7lb 2oz on Pug feeder, with worm and corn for a great bag of 113lb. Like last time, he said he's not doing it again this season, so watch this space.

Anyway the Bream are feeding well, so its worth a trip.

22nd September 2017 - Heron Pond / New Work Party Date

Big thanks to everyone who turned out on this glorious sunny Friday to help at the "Not A Work Party" at Goose Green, the amount of work as always surpassed by miles what we had intended to do and it is only with the help of our trusty band of volunteers that we are able to do so much in so little time and keep the fishery looking as beautiful as it does.

My personal thanks go to

Sandy, Simon, Ollie, Barry G, Eddie, Martin, Lewis and Chairman Steve.

See you all at the next one

  New Work Party Date

A Work party has been arranged for Saturday 14th October 2017 at Goose Green, starting at 09:30.

Tasks will predominantly be grass and shrub cutting on Tench Pond, New Pond & Deep Lake using heavy strimmers and hedge cutters.

We do not intend to do any heavy tree work, other than trimming branches and shrubs back from around swims at this work party. TENCH POND, NEW POND & DEEP LAKE AND THE IMMEDIATE SURROUNDING AREAS WILL BE CLOSED ON THE 14th October, so we can cut the banks and paths in this area, which we cannot do if people are fishing, if you are fishing on these ponds on the 14th, we are afraid you will be asked to move for your own and our safety.

There will be a considerable amount of noise all day whist this essential maintenance is undertaken, any and all help gratefully accepted.

Hope to see you there.

Spike

17th September 2017 - Goose Green Heron Pond

Please be advised that Heron Pond at Goose Green will be closed on Friday 22nd September 2017 so we can finish cutting the vegetation around the pond, specifically along the back path slope (pegs 7 to 10) this is not a full blown work party and we dont anticipate the work taking any longer than a couple of hours, as soon as we are finished the pond will reopen.

Thank you for your understanding.

15th September 2017 - Goose Green Work Party

Looking forward to tomorrows work party at Goose Green, weather looks good and hopefully we will have a good turn out.

Just as a reminder, Heron Pond (aka the bottom pond, the big pond and lake 2) is shut all day so we can carry out some essential work on it.

If you are fishing it you WILL be asked to move, as we cannot do what needs to be done with people fishing there, as it risks not only your, but our safety.

See you tomorrow morning

Spike

4th September 2017 - Goose Green Work Party

A work party has been arranged at Goose Green for Saturday 16th September, starting at 09:30.

Time to give the fishery a good heavy cut before Autumn & Winter set in, tasks will predominantly be grass and shrub cutting on ALL ponds using heavy strimmers and hedge cutters.

We do not intend to do any heavy tree work, other than trimming branches and shrubs back from around swims at this work party. HERON POND WILL BE CLOSED on the 16th so we can cut the banks and lower paths in this area, which we cannot do if people are fishing, if you are fishing on Heron on the 16th, we are afraid you will be asked to move.

There will be a considerable amount of noise all day whist this essential maintenance is undertaken, any and all help gratefully accepted.

Hope to see you there

  31 August 2017 - Litter

May we remind members that littering is not acceptable and is against our rules, (see rule 10 in your rule book reproduced below for your easy reference), you bought it with you so you can also take it away with you and dispose of it in the proper place, ie: YOUR BIN AT HOME, its not up to other member's and the bailiffs to tidy up your mess because you are too lazy to clear it up yourself.

26 August 2017 - Huge Bream Haul On The Arun

  Following from Paul Holden;

Gail, Graham and I fished the Arun today.

I opted for stick Float feeding hemp and corn, with corn on the hook, just up from the sluice, for a few Roach. Gail fished Wagler and maggot for a mixed net of about 6lb.

But Graham had a day of his life. He fished groundbait feeder with worm and corn on the hook, on the Bream pegs and netted 19 Bream for 96lb 8oz.

  17 August 2017 - Camping / Poaching

We would like to advise members that our waters are not your personal camp site where you can take the family for short breaks on the cheap, they are fisheries, whilst night fishing is permitted, camping out using family tents, charcoal braziers and blocking paths and swims with camping equipment is unacceptable and following more than one incident of people treating our waters as their personal camp site this summer, is something we are now going to come down very strongly on.

If you want to go camping with the family then please use a dedicated camp site, you may hold a membership that allows you to fish, but we are not a holiday camp, anyone found camping, blocking paths and swims will be asked to move their equipment, as access is required at all times by ALL members, so they can enjoy their fishing too.

  Poaching

If you see or suspect people are fishing illegally on our waters please, please, please call a bailiff or the EA as we cannot stop these people illegally fishing if we find out about it three days after the event.

If you witness people removing fish, using fixed bank lines, long lines and/or nets then phone the Police, the EA and our bailiffs immediately.

  30 July 2017 - Hornets

Anglers, please be aware that there is a Hornets nest in the vicinity of pegs 35 & 36 on Kingfisher Pond at Goose Green.

Please do not touch or disturb the nest, if you leave them alone, they will leave you alone.

  17 July 2017 - Goose Green Tench / Camping

There have been some wonderful Tench come out of Goose Green in the past few days and we have received reports of Tench being caught in the majority of the ponds to a variety of different  tactics.

Pictured are Sandy Emery with a beautiful Tench caught from Deep Lake on Saturday 15th July and Gavin Tester with lovely Tench from Kingfisher Pond at Goose Green on Friday 14th.

Keep the photo's coming please.

  Camping

We would like to advise members that Goose Green is a fishery, not a camp site, whilst night fishing is permitted, camping out using family tents, charcoal braziers and blocking paths with camping equipment is not on.

If you want to go camping with the family then please use a dedicated camp site, you may hold a membership that allows you to fish, but we are not a free holiday camp, anyone found blocking paths will be asked to move their equipment, as access is required at all times by ALL members, so they can enjoy their fishing too.

In addition and per our rules, litter is not permitted, you bought it with you, so you can also take it home with you, if you are fishing at any time you are required to keep your swim litter free, ie, put your empty drinks bottles, sweet and sandwich wrappers in a bag and take it home with you, don't leave it laying on the ground and blowing in the wind waiting for someone else to clear your mess up.

Failure to clear your litter and keep your swim tidy, may result in the loss of membership.

If you are fishing at any time then your tackle must be attended, if you are not in attendance then you must, by law, remove your tackle from the water before leaving your swim.

Under the terms of the EA Southern Area byelaws, you are not allowed to leave your tackle in the water unattended at any time, a copy of the byelaws can be downloaded by visiting this link. https://www.gov.uk/…/attachment_d…/file/617739/LIT_10140.pdf

Thank you.

15 July 2017 - Goose Green Work Party

  Excellent work party at Goose Green today, many thanks to the following for giving up their time to help maintain the fishery;

Ant, Alan, Simon, Ollie, Eddie, Robin, Dudley, Mark, Harvey, Barry R, Terry, Ian & Josh, oh yes and Spike who was there all day.

A further work party will be held in the coming weeks.

6 July 2017 - Goose Green Work Party / Bridge Maintenance / Keepnets

Following my trip to Goose Green yesterday and being able at last to have a bit of a look round, it quickly became apparent that a number of swims on Canada pond could do with a bit of attention.

Some just need a bit of light remedial work, but others such as peg 22 need rebuilding, therefore we have taken the decision to temporarily close Canada Pond on Saturday 15th July so the repair works can be undertaken unhindered.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause, but the repairs need to be done, we aim to reopen the pond as quickly as we can, all other ponds remain open, but please be aware that we will be operating machinery around the entire fishery for most of the day whilst we carry out our maintenance work.

Thank you for your understanding.

Mark Emery (Spike)
Goose Green Fishery Manager

Essential Bridge Maintenance at Greatham From 17th July 2017

Below message received this afternoon from WSCC Highways about essential bridge maintenance at Greatham this summer.

"We wish to inform you of refurbishment works to Greatham Bridge in Brooks Lane (nr Coldwaltham), which are due to commence on 17 July 2017 and last for approximately 12 weeks.

Routine inspections have identified significant erosion to the old stonework, particularly at a low level where it has been affected by the action of the river. The refurbishment work is being carried out by specialist stone masons under the consent of Historic England. The intention is to provide temporary dams so that the arch spans can be dewatered and worked on from underneath. No work will be carried out to the main metal span of the bridge which takes most of the river flow.

Due to the narrowness of the road, the bridge will need to be closed to traffic during the works, with a signed local diversion route put in place via the A29 and A283. Access to private properties along the lane will be maintained at all times, albeit from the diversion route. Pedestrian access over the bridge will also remain available.

Our contractor will require the use of a small area of the car park at the south west corner of the bridge for access and storage of equipment etc. "

  Keepnets

We have been advised that some anglers continue to use keepnets at Goose Green, as previously advised here, on the club Facebook page and on the notice board at the fishery, keepnets are temporarily banned due to the continued warm weather and reduced O2 levels in the ponds.

5 July 2017 - Duncans Pond Work Party

Our thanks to Paul Hazeldine, Paul Holden and Phil Goodwin for their efforts clearing four boat loads of weed, a bike and three bags of litter from Duncans Pond last evening

4 July 2017 - Work Party Duncans Pond

A work party has been arranged at Duncan's Pond this evening (Tuesday 4th July) starting at 18:15, apologies for the very short notice.

2 July 2017 - Rescued From The Arun

  We received a telephone call in the week from a club member called John Clinton, John whilst fishing the Arun at Stopham unfortunately fell in and was rescued by his friend who was fishing with him, his friend saved his life as John does not swim. John wanted to publicly thank his friend Marjan Petrovski for saving his life, in Johns own words, which we leave unedited;

"When I was fishing on river Arun at south side of Stopham bridge on the 24th June by the tree fell in to the water, pulled by strength of the current, manage to come back up again when my friend Marjan Petrovski pushed the long bankstick towards me and then pulled me out back to the edge of the river to safety. I will always be very grateful to him for saving my life. He wants to join the fishing club, for what of him he will be very good member of the club.
Best regards from John"

  2 July 2017 - Giant Hogweed

Please be aware that there is currently a lot of Giant Hogweed growing at Duncans Pond, Pulborough, please do not touch this plant as it's sap contains phototoxic chemicals that can cause severe skin burns. http://www.nonnativespecies.org/?pageid=152

1 July 2017 - Goose Green Work Party Date

A work party has been arranged at Goose Green for Saturday 15th July, starting at 09:30, tasks include grass cutting and swim maintenance i.e. sympathetic trimming of overhanging and encroaching branches.

Any and all help gratefully accepted, and yes, chances are i will be there too.

Hope to see you on the day.

Spike.

  27 June 2017 - Braid / Keepnets

Braided Lines & Hook Lengths

Pulborough Angling Society committee is now recommending that braided lines are not used at our Goose Green complex.

Thank you.

Keepnets

It has come to our attention that a minority of anglers are ignoring the keepnet ban on our ponds and lakes, to reiterate;

KEEPNETS ARE BANNED ON ALL CLUB
STILLWATERS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

We have taken the decision to temporarily ban the use of keepnets/carp sacks on all club lakes & ponds, due to the prolonged period of hot & humid weather and subsequent reduced O2 levels, keepnets may still used in bona fide club matches, if it's not on the Fixture List, the answer is "no you cant".

The situation will be monitored over the coming days/weeks and addressed accordingly.

20 June 2017 - New Water at Brinsbury College

We have acquired a  new water for 2017 at Brinsbury College, Pulborough.

The water is approx half acre in size with depths ranging between 3-4 ft with reed lined banks, fish holding weed beds and lots of bank side cover, the pond although small offers our members a slightly more traditional, dare we say Mr Crabtree, type of environment.

The pond is stocked with mixed species including Carp, Bream, Tench, Roach & Rudd and responds well to float fished baits such as maggot & bread.

This pond is located within the Brinsbury College Campus and as such a number of fishery specific rules apply, these can be found in your membership book, please make sure you are conversant with them before fishing.

This fishery is closed during the statutory close season.

17 June 2017 - Opening Weekend - Bream on the Arun

Paul Holdens first day of the new season on the Arun at Washingham.

Targeted the Bream with groundbait feeder and worm for three Bream and one good Perch for 14lb 15oz.

Short tides on the river at the moment with not much flow, so bites a bit few and far between, but a cracking day in the sun.

Hopefully a day on the float tomorrow.

Following report received from new member Steve Chatfield;

"I only joined on 16th June as I have just retired. I wanted to return to club fishing in Sussex, having been a former member of Burgess Hill/ Hassocks AS, Henfield AS and Isfield AS over the last 40 years.

First trip to Greatham on the river Arun, were I met Barry Ginnaw. He gave me some useful info and off I went, 3 hours later I had hooked 9 bream up to 5lb 9oz. I lost 3 all foul hooked. A dozen small roach and a small chub. Estimated total weight 25lb. All on the stick float. I think I am going to enjoy being at Pulborough AS."

Match Secretary Barry Ginnaw sends us this "
I fished at Greatham Bridge about halfway up the first straight and caught 8 bream weighing in at 32lb plus roach, perch, gudgeon, dace and bleak to feeder and worm and maggot and waggler and maggot.

Below via Dave Wilkins (Angling Trust, Regional Enforcement Officer, South East)

Anglers – please be vigilant. A recent theft of fishing tackle occurred overnight from a car in Bognor Regis and included a Shakespeare tackle bag and chair .

The bag contained two TFG classic centre pin reels with line guards fitted and a Drennan Series 7 9-40 feeder reel along with small tackle boxes with various bits of terminal tackle including a lot of deception hooks.

If you happen to be offered any of these under suspicious circumstances please report the matter to the Police or use the Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111 .

If you are going for an early morning session please resist the temptation to pack your car the night before.

You might also want to consider using a security product such as SmartWater to protect your valuable tackle and equipment and check your insurance to make sure you are covered should the worst happen .

15 May 2017 - We Need Your Help / Angling Experience Day

We still need to fill the Club Secretaries position on the Committee after our previous secretary stepped down from the role, at the moment the job is being covered by the Chairman, who cannot be expected to continue fulfilling both roles indefinitely.

Is this a job that you can do, would you like some further info on what is involved before committing? then please contact Steve Moulding - email pulboroughchairman@gmail.com

We are looking for a couple of members who would be willing to organise a general tidy up of Duncans Pond, Pulborough & Storrington Mill Pond in readiness for the new season, no heavy work would be involved other than picking up litter and the trimming back of overhanging foliage around swims, the job should take no more than a couple of hours.

If you are able to help or would like further details of what's involved, please call Mark Emery on 07910 319485 for details.

  28 April 2017 - Terry Goodwin

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Goodwin.  Terry who for many years was our Vice Chairman, Committee member and probably our longest serving club member was an avid river angler and supporter of many club events,
he will be sadly missed by many in the club as well as the greater angling community.

Tight Lines Terry.

9 February 2017 - Work Party

A work party has been arranged for Saturday 18th February at Goose Green starting at 09:30.

We will be working on and around Kingfisher pond and will be removing the Blackthorns along the ditch bank in order to create a wind channel and hopefully alleviate some of the green scum on the surface later in the year, if man power on the day allows we will also take out some of the Aspen suckers and open up the bank by the Tench Pond bridge.

Hope to see you there.

Spike
